Welcome to Gathman's Cottage
Gathman's Cottage is a grade II listed building, which has been tastefully restored and modernised retaining its original features and giving a feel for life two hundred years ago but with the contemporary conveniences.
The cottage was built in the early 18th Century and is thatched and of 'mud & stud' construction unique to Lincolnshire, few of its type having survived. The cottage takes its name from the 'Gathman', local dialect for the stockman who looked after the cattle. The design was popular for farm-workers and used locally available materials - timber, mud and straw for the thatch.
The interior of the cottage is surprisingly roomy. All the ceilings are beamed. Downstairs the floors are old quarry tiles and upstairs are polished wood with rugs. The furniture is traditional pine. The spacious dining-area has a large table and six chairs and is warmed year-round by a Rayburn stove. The kitchen is well-equipped and has an electric cooker, microwave, washing-machine and fridge/freezer. The extension to the rear contains the bathroom (with bath, toilet and over-bath shower) and a double bedroom. Upstairs the main bedroom has a pine double bed with carved head and foot board. Furnishing upstairs was tricky as the eaves are low, but the room is 'simply' comfortable. The second bedroom upstairs has twin beds and both rooms have lovely views of the farm and distant countryside. Outside is a patio with garden furniture, a generous lawn area and ample parking space for cars.
The cottage is available all year round for weekly bookings and for short breaks (generally out of high-season).
